ABOUT SPACE
AT BERKELEY

SPACE at Berkeley is a dynamic, student-run organization dedicated to advancing future space technologies by participating in the NASA Artemis Student Challenges.  By engaging in these challenges, our undergraduate and graduate members explore critical technologies and fields such as human-computer interaction, robotics, and lunar tools. These experiences build strong foundational knowledge and inspire the next generation of space explorers. Our organization is structured into two divisions: ASTRO, which focuses on technical challenges, and Community, which ensures the organization’s smooth operation and growth. Students from all majors come together as teams to develop innovative projects throughout the year. At the end of each challenge cycle, our teams have the exciting opportunity to travel to NASA facilities and compete alongside other university teams during test week.

  • How can I join SPACE?
To join SPACE at Berkeley, start by filling out our interest form, which is available on our website. After you submit the form, we'll reach out to you via email with further details about the application process and next steps. While we're excited to welcome new members, please note that we aim to maintain a manageable team size for each of our challenge groups to ensure effective collaboration. Because of this, there may be a cutoff for new members based on team capacity, especially as we approach the Fall semester. However, with multiple challenge teams and a capacity of around 30 members per team, we strive to accommodate as many passionate students as possible. We're eager to have you join us in our mission to innovate and explore!
  • What majors can apply?
We are open to all majors, both technical and non-technical, so feel free to fill out the interest form regardless of your intended major!
  • How will I benefit from joining?
By joining SPACE at Berkeley, you'll work directly with a NASA mentor and a team of talented students on cutting-edge projects that contribute to NASA's Artemis missions. This experience offers hands-on learning in fields like robotics and human-computer interaction, as well as valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals, all while developing crucial skills.
  • How much experience do I need?
Your experience level, whether a lot or a little, does not prevent you from competing with the team. We want you to apply regardless of your experience and allow us to place you in the right role that will allow for the most growth and contribution.
